After we heard it from Nice earlier, we've now got more details on Jordan Amavi's move to Aston Villa.

We heard that Villa had placed a bid. We heard that Villa had really placed a bit. We heard from Nice that Jordan Amavi was headed to Aston Villa. And now, finally, we have it from Villa themselves: Jordan Amavi is our new left back! While Villa list the fee as "undisclosed" it is widely speculated to be in the £9-10 million range, which is a great price for a young player who has the skill to be a potent attacking threat and the presence of mind to be a defensive asset.

Even better from Villa is the news that Amavi is here on a five-year contract that will see him with the club through the 2019-2020 season. In reality, he may not be here quite that long given Villa's need to make money by selling players, but it's a long enough contract for him to settle in and become a great player and thus command a good fee.

If you're looking to know more about Amavi, I'd highly recommend this scouting report from Outside of the Boot. In the meantime: Welcome, Jordan! Now please be the fix we're all dying to see at left back.

A bit of good news! A left back that might actually be able to play football!

Nice have confirmed that Jordan Amavi has signed for Aston Villa. My French is a bit sketchy but it's definitely for real! Expect official confirmation from Villa as I'm writing this.

Villa have had a dearth of quality at left back for several years. Most of us won't have seen a lot of him, but reports suggest we could have a real player on our hands here. Can't wait to see him in action.

Welcome to Villa Jordan!

Jordan Amavi should soon be Aston Villa's newest left back.

Well finally, in a day of junk news that saw a 0-0 draw against Braga somehow be the highlight, we actually have something good. Gregg Evans of the Birmingham Mail is reporting that only a few formalities remain before 21-year-old left back Jordan Amavi can complete his transfer from Nice to Aston Villa. Once those are taken care of, "Amavi is expected to report to training at Bodymoor Heath early next week."

The move, assumed to be £10 million pounds, would see the young Ligue 1 left back likely become the first choice at that position for Aston Villa. With his only competition being Kieran Richardson and Aly Cissokho (who is still at the club despite the fact that Tim Sherwood doesn't want him), Amavi shouldn't have a hard time sliding into the starting XI.

Bringing in Amavi, especially when coupled with Idrissa Gueye, is an exciting move. Sherwood has no choice or say in the departure of Fabian Delph and the seemingly-just-about-to-happen-always sending off of Christian Benteke. We can't hold those moves against him. Instead, we can look at what he's been able to control this summer. Bring in Amavi, add a couple more players, and suddenly this is a pretty successful first-ever window for Sherwood.

A new report says that Aston Villa have had a £9 million bid accepted for Jordan Amavi.

Coming into the summer, it seemed pretty clear that (excepting a situation in which Christian Benteke left) left back was Aston Villa's biggest position of need. Aly Cissokho was told that he was surplus and Kieran Richardson was the first choice at the position despite the fact that he isn't all that good there. So the news that Villa have had a £9 million bid accepted for Nice's Jordan Amavi is very welcome. According to Laurie Whitwell of the Mail, the bid is done and personal terms will be "no problem."

Amavi, who is only 21 years old, has been in the system of Ligue 1's Nice since 2010. He has already made fifty-five senior appearances for the club. He's often mentioned in discussions for the next first-choice left back for the French national side and he's shown a good blend of defending skill and attacking prowess. This season he scored four goals, and it seems as if pace and ball control are both strengths for him.

At 21 Amavi has the potential to be Villa's left back of the future, but we've said that about plenty of others. Hopefully he doesn't become another casualty of Villa's never-ending left back problem.

Left back is an apparent position of quandary for Aston Villa heading into next year's campaign, and Nice's 21 year old left back Jordan Amavi may fit the bill perfectly for Tim Sherwood's men.

After seeing last year's dysfunctional left back corps at Villa limp to the finish line that was Premier League safety, Tim Sherwood knew without question that left back was one of the most important areas to address in his first transfer window while at the helm of Aston Villa.

Villa have been linked with Everton's Luke Garbutt on loan, FC Copenhagen's Ludwig Augustinsson, and Ajax's Nicolai Boilesen, but none have progressed to advanced stages of a transfer negotiation.

Villa, however, are said to have submitted a £9 million bid for Nice left back Jordan Amavi.

Reports out of both France and England say that a bid of such magnitude is expected to be accepted, a large increase from Villa's reported £5 million opening bid.

Amavi sparkled in the Ligue 1 last season, showing attacking prowess coupled with defensive competency, and has already made 55 first team appearances in the French top flight for Nice.

For his age, he certainly has his fare share of quality experience, in addition to having a massive capacity to mature into a world-class left back, a position where Villa has hopelessly underachieved in the past years.

Villa have also completed the signing of Idrissa Gueye for a reported £9 million from French side Lille, and spending of this sort was not foreseen by many Villa fans, especially before any sort of big-money sale.

Could these bids mean that Sherwood feels a Benteke departure is imminent, does it mean Randy Lerner has been convinced to re-invest into the squad he is trying to sell, or does it mean that a prospective Villa buyer has given the financial go-ahead to restore Villa to its past glory?

While it remains to be seen what will happen with this transfer window and what will happen with new ownership, one thing is as clear as ever: Tim Sherwood is trying to get things done.
