Aston Villa once again failed to show up for a home match, and Everton capitalized with an easy win.

What's left to say? Everton beast Aston Villa today 1-3 at Villa Park. The planned #OutTheDoorOn74 protest was hampered by low attendance and the fact that the Toffees had a three-goal advantage before the planned walk-out time. Plenty of people left, but already, it seemed, the empty seats outnumbered the filled one.

And how did it all go down? Aston Villa started with five in the back, including three centre backs. The objective was to prevent the type of stupid goals that have plagued the team all season, and that was blown away within five minutes. With three centre backs (Richards, Clark, and Lescott) in the lineup, Everton whipped a corner into the Villa box and scored when (centre back) Ramiro Funes Mori was left entirely unmarked and could score easily.

Then, in the 30th minute, Aaron Lennon (also left largely unmarked) managed to slot a ball between the legs of a centre back and Brad Guzan. Two nutmegs, one goal. Villa had no answer for Everton and despite the fact that the Merseyside team weren't all that great they were cruising to a victory.

In the second half, Romelu Lukaku did the seemingly inevitable and scored, giving Everton the three-goal lead and chasing fans out of Villa Park before the protest could even do its job. A 79th-minute consolation from Rudy Gestede was never going to be enough and Villa limped away impotently to yet another loss.

What makes today even harder to accept is the fact that Villa actually looked decent in the final third at times. But how can they be expected to do much when the defense (bolstered with one extra player today) can't even be asked to remove their heads from their rear ends? This club is a shambles and relegation is only a matter of weeks away now. Every match feels more and more meaningless.

Well that doesn't seem to have done too much.

The #OutTheDoorOn74 protest was a decent idea hampered by logistical problems and some of logic, as well. Nevertheless, I had no ill will towards the protest and was curious to see what would happen. Here's a before and after:

Whatever the results, the protest was hampered by low attendance to begin with, so I think it's safe to say that the spirit of the anger has been heard by Aston Villa. What a farce.

Aston Villa fans had a protest planned for today. It may not work out.

Out the Door on 74 was supposed to be a grand statement. All of the Villa fans standing up and walking out with 16 minutes remaining in the match. A stunning visual reminder of just how angry we all are. Except there might be one small problem with the whole plan.

We've got everything you need to watch as Aston Villa host Everton.

What? How? How is there another match today. Aston Villa just lost their seventeenth match (related: hahahahahahahahahaha) barely more than 72 hours ago. We should all be given a break. Surely making us go yet again as if in some Paul Lambertesque nightmare Hellscape violates at least one of the tenets of the Geneva Conventions, no?

But alas, we go again. This time against Everton who currently sit in what must be to them a disappointing twelfth place, but to us would be seen as nothing short of a miracle. Everton are a team made up of Romelu Lukaku and a bunch of players who are not nearly as entertaining as Romelu Lukaku. Romelu Lukaku is in possession of both a name that is so much fun to say that you can't help but say the whole thing and the talent necessary to get a hat-trick against Villa.

And after losing 2-1 to Stoke, Aston Villa are surely done. So today's real drama will come in the 74th minute when we see just how many fans decide to actually be #OutTheDoorOn74. My guess is that the protest won't have nearly as many participants as organizers would have hoped if only because there probably won't be that many people at Villa Park today.

If you'd like to watch along, we've got everything you need below. If you'd rather forget about Aston Villa, I've provided some recipes that should do the trick. You will also find them below.
Forget about Aston Villa libation - fancy version

2 oz bourbon or rye

2 sugar cubes or 2 tsp sugar or 2 teaspoons of simple syrup

Bitters (I like a blend I've made using bourbon and aromatic bitters ingredients with cinnamon sticks, but plain ol' aromatic or orange bitters will do wonderfully)

Ice

Orange peel

Place sugar in a rocks glass and add bitters. I tend to be a bit liberal here, but go to taste. You can add more later. If you use less AND you're not using simple syrup add a half teaspoon of water. Muddle that. Put in a big ol' ice cube or a bunch of ice. Pour bourbon/rye on top. Stir. Garnish with an orange peel. If you want to add a bunch of fruit in there, that's your (wrong) choice.

Forget about Aston Villa libation - less fancy version

Bourbon, or alcohol of your choice

Ice. Or not.

Glass. Or not.

Pour alcohol and ice into glass. Or put ice in mouth and add alcohol. Or just put alcohol in a glass. Or just put alcohol straight into your mouth. Will people judge you? Absolutely. But remind them that you're doing this instead of watching Aston Villa and they will see your effort for the wise decision that it is.

Sort it out, Villa!

I don't need to patronise anyone here by telling you there's a lot wrong with Villa. The squad has the depth of an evaporating puddle, the manager has all the support of a forty year old bra and the board don't have a clue, exactly like a half-empty game of Cluedo.

So why, oh why do the head honchos at our beloved Villans believe it's a good idea to price games at this level?

Villa v Everton

Barclays Premier League

Villa Park

Tuesday March 1

Kick-off: 7:45pm

Category B game

Prices: £25 to £42 [adults], £25 to £42 [concessions], £17 to £35 [U18s], £12 to £35 [U8s], £37 to £42 [adult/junior (U18) combo ticket]

For a category B game, at Villa Park on a cold Tuesday night in February you can expect to pay a maximum of £42. Again, I don't need to patronise you by telling you how ridiculous that is.

If you want to take your under-eight years old child, you might be paying upwards of £35. God forbid you take a family of four to the Villa, where the worst case scenario will have you blowing over one-hundred pounds before you've bought little Daisy a pie.

I'm no economist, but even if these prices are relatively cheap compared to the rest of the Premier League, Aston Villa need to consider that they aren't exactly ‘Premier League' right now.
