The ink is still fresh on Axel Tuanzebe’s new contract at Manchester United - but Dean Smith has ideas of tempting the centre-back to Aston Villa for one more season. According to John Percy of The Telegraph - Axel is one of three signings that Smith wants to seal before the transfer window closes.
Tuanzebe was nothing less than a class act during his two seasons at Villa, and was a key part of Villa’s promotion push. The defender robbed strikers of the ball, and rampaged forward with it himself - often laying off a destructive pass to a surging Ahmed Elmohamady to whip in. There was more than enough about the player for Villa to consider a permanent offer.
However, he’s a Manchester United player - and an extremely highly rated Manchester United player at that. New contracts aren’t cheap at Old Trafford for younger players - but Axel’s been given one - and might just have a part to play for Manchester United next season. At just 21, Axel’s ability belies his youth. He has the aura of a defender who’s been around the block a few times - and it’s hard to believe that this is just the start of his career. It’s no surprise that he could be starting games this season for Manchester United.
However, Villa have made their interest known. There’s every chance that Tuanzebe could be made available for just one more season.
So why not Villa? We can’t go without that chant.
