You wait all day for news, and two stories break at once. Directly after confirming the move of Gary Gardner to Birmingham City, Aston Vill have announced a deal that sees Jota Peleteiro, a record signing for the Blues move in the opposite direction on a two-year deal.
Jota, who can be deployed as a midfield playmaker or a tricky winger is a savvy squad depth pickup for Dean Smith’s Aston Villa. Smith of course managed Jota at Brentford and before Villa fans start to doubt his ability, they would do well to cast their minds back to January 2017 when Jota put in performance that devestated Villa.
The two-year deal is incredibly smart, and cautious, business from Villa and ensures that they aren’t locked into certain players if the club is to drop back into the Championship in the near future.
Jota won’t be the first name on the team sheet, but he’ll be a brilliant player for Villa - and if Jota is your depth option, then you won’t have many problems in rotation.
Welcome Jota, to the better side of the city...
