Aston Villa will seek to restructure their midfield by bringing in Nathaniel Chalobah on loan from Premier League Watford. According to the BBC, Villa are considering a loan deal that will bring in the defensive midfielder until the end of the season.
Chalobah, who made his England debut back in October, would be a grand signing for Aston Villa - even on a temporary basis - and should prove to be popular. However, this move does need to come into fruition and be realised before we can get carried away. The midfielder would likely solve a number of issues for Villa’s midfield and add some much needed steel and mobility to the core of Villa’s playing team.
Chalobah likely isn’t gathering the game time that he wants at Watford and importantly for Villa, hasn’t started for The Hornets since early December. Once part of Chelsea’s ‘loan army’, Chalobah will find a friend in current loanee Tammy Abraham. Nathaniel seems to be a natural fit for Aston Villa’s new transfer policy and seems like a prototypical Dean Smith signing, albeit a more high-profile one. Chalobah is young and ever so slightly under-appreciated at his current club. If he does move to Villa and can perform, it could be the type of move that works for everyone involved.
If there’s one report that I hope is true this January, then it has to be this one.
