Villa have today announced that they’ve beaten Middlesbrough to the punch with the loan-signing of Yannick Bolasie. Bolasie, a sure-fire entertainer at Championship level, had been talking to both clubs about a move from his current side, Premier League Everton.
Bolasie, a right sided winger, will look to replicate Robert Snodgrass, who bagged a good amount of goals and assists in the same role last season. It’s thought that Bolasie will bring a good deal of trickery and menace to Villa’s right side, which is currently blunted and lacking. What’s more, this move will force Ahmed Elmohamady into a right-back position and move Axel Tuanzebe to centre-back. That’s good enough for me. There were some doubts that Bolaise would sign, doubts - now crushed.
It has to be said that this signing is somewhat of a small coup - Yannick is a known quantity at Premier League level and could really make a mark for Villa in the Championship. It remains to be seen as to how well he’ll adapt, but if he’s anything like Snodgrass, he’ll do just fine - and he’ll look just as good doing what he does best. Leaving full-backs on their backsides.
