*EDIT - Dr Tony has stamped this one out. It ain’t happening. Seems Hernandez’s agent is trying to force a move via the media.

Reports have emerged from South America tonight suggesting that Hull City’s Uruguayan forward, Abel Hernández, is on his way to Aston Villa.

Nico Pirri, who covers football for Tirando1010, a radio station based in Uruguay is reporting that Abel Hernández could be on the verge of moving to Aston Villa - to link up with Steve Bruce and John Terry. This was echoed by another member of the team at Tirando1010.

Now, we’re not sure if the deal is real - but there are some big hints available to those with a keen eye. Namely that Pirri covers the Peñarol beat for Tirando1010. This is special because Peñarol were the team that Abel Hernández grew up with - he came through their academy. He still maintains a close connection with the club and is admittedly nuts about them.

It’s still a very small link - and we must remember that Aston Villa may not be able to afford to bring in the striker they were linked with last summer. However Abel Hernández would be a decent addition to a Villa squad needing a bit of flair up front.
