Aston Villa have officially announced the signing of Sam Johnstone on a loan from Manchester United - almost an entire week since the deal was rumoured to be sealed.

Here’s what we had to say on the deal earlier:
Johnstone is obviously no stranger to Villa Park having made 22 appearances for Villa last season, keeping eight clean sheets. More will be expected of the keeper, who won’t have the benefit of ‘getting used’ to the team this time around, he’s a veteran around these parts now.
The future is bright for Sam Johnstone and it may yet be at United - but he’s got competition and he will use this time to prove himself. If it doesn’t work out though, Villa will surely offer him a permanent deal if he’s up to scratch - which would be ideal.
It’s a shame that the deal is another loan, but Johnstone was solid for Villa - let’s hope we can hold onto him.
