Dimitar Berbatov flashed onto the radar of Aston Villa fans in late July when it was first rumoured that he could be joining the club. Then we heard nothing for ages and I think that most of us forgot about the rumour. So it came as a bit of a shock today to see it reignited by Sky Sports and the Express.
These rumours may very well be a simple rehash of something that popped up a month ago, and I'm not sure that a move for the 34-year-old Bulgarian striker actually is going to happen. But there is one thing to keep in mind: it might still happen even if we don't get it in before the close of the transfer window today.
Since Berbatov is a free agent, he is able to sign at any point, even outside of the transfer window. That means that if a deal cannot be finished today it could still go through tomorrow or Thursday. That said, the deadline to submit squad lists to the Premier League is 5 PM on September 3, so there isn't an infinite amount of time for this to happen.
