Aston Villa likely to make loan move for defender

Aston Villa are apparently ready to send Nathan Baker out on loan.

It may take some dominoes falling, but Aston Villa defender Nathan Baker looks set to head out on loan today. According to the Birmingham Mail the move is contingent upon Villa successfully signing Joleon Lescott from West Bromwich Albion. That move is expected to come some time today and would free up space for Baker to head out for a season.

Why does manager Tim Sherwood want to loan out Baker? Well, if Gregg Evans is to be believed, it's for the most hilarious of reasons:

"Boss Tim Sherwood tied Baker down to a long-term contract recently but wants to see if he can play through a whole season without picking up any long-term injuries as the powerful stopper has suffered too many setbacks in recent times."

Yep, just try walking without hitting your head, Nathan.

Bristol City look to be the front runners to nab Baker, but it's well-known that Burnley have a long-standing interest. Either way, expect him to have a year to prove himself outside of Villa Park.
