Aston Villa have attempted to make a major splash by divebombing into the deadline day pool, only to be pushed right back out by the lifeguards (Who may or may not be the Crystal Palace board).
Villa understood to have offered £1.5m loan fee for Dwight Gayle. Crystal Palace will only sell him - for £10m. @MirrorFootball

This would have been the perfect move for Villa, who are looking for someone to feed of Rudy Gestede's increasingly improving layoff game and would have ideally stopped them looking at Adebayor. The rumoured loan also suits a Villa team who are bursting at the seams with players right now and a long-term commitment in this area wouldn't suit them.
On the other hand, the move isn't dead, Palace just want £10 Million for a squad player. If Aston Villa are prepared to bite the bullet, they might just add a bit of dynamism to their front line. However, this price tag might just provoke them to shop elsewhere.
