Tim Sherwood could not stop making deals if he were killed this very instant. Aston Villa have added their seventh signing of the summer (and fourth of the past couple of weeks) by adding Spanish defender Jose Angel Crespo from Cordoba CF. The details of Crespo's transfer aren't known aside for the fact that it's a three-year deal for the 28-year-old, but it's widely speculated that he has come to Villa for something in the €1 million range. Given the strength of the pound to the euro, if that number is anywhere near being correct the proper way to think of this move is as being basically free.

And for that price, Villa aren't getting a star player or someone we should expect to see in the starting XI with any regularity. Instead we have a player who can provide adequate coverage and both side as a fullback or in the center of the defense. That's not the most exciting profile, but given that Villa defenders have proven to be made of glass in recent years, it's a great thing to have around. Keep him on the bench and you can possibly cut down on the number of defenders you have to stash there, leaving things open for more creative players.

And if all of that doesn't convince you just look at the man. As someone on twitter said, it's as if Carlos Cuellar and Antonio Luna merged into one person. And then got interviewed by Carles Gil. /swoon
