Ayew joins after a transfer saga that seemed to stretch forever, but in reality was done in less than a week. The delay stemmed from a disagreement about transfer fee between Ayew and Lorient, with the player claiming that the club had told him he could leave if a certain fee were met but then holding out for more money. At one point, Ayew was already in Birmingham without the permission of his club and was threatening to strike.
But that's all water under the bridge now that the signing is official. Reports have it pegged as being somewhere near £9 million, which seems a fair price and means that Tim Sherwood has already spent somewhere in the region of £28 million in France this summer. Ayew will be with the club through the 2019-2020 season.
