Another day, another new striker rumor. Charlie Austin, Breel Embolo, Jordan Ayew, Patrick Bamford, and now, Callum Wilson. According to a report from the express, Villa are seriously looking at Callum Wilson of newly-promoted Bournemouth. With more and more reports explicitly stating that the Benteke deal is done, Sherwood will have to face the reality that there is a massive striker gap up front. Villa have been linked to many strikers already this window, but it appears that they have not gotten into advanced talks with any of them.
The most recent report suggests that Villa are keen on Bournemouth's 23 year old striker Callum Wilson. The Englishman scored 20 times and assisted 13 times in the Championship last season, being a major part in Bournemouth's automatic promotion to the Premier League. The reported fee Bournemouth desires is £7 million, a number that initially put Villa and Tim Sherwood off. But, following the big money moves of Christian Benteke and Fabian Delph, Sherwood is now keen on the number. Bournemouth, however, are understandably afraid of losing their star striker, and do not want to see a player they view as instrumental to their success leave just as they arrive to the Premier League.
£7 million certainly sounds like a reasonable number for a striker who is following the Charlie Austin and Danny Ings model, but it remains to be seen if he will be able to replicate their top-flight goal scoring ability.
Do you think that £7 million is worth it for Callum Wilson, and will he be able to convert in the Premier League? Let us know!
