All week here at 7500 to Holte, we’ll be featuring news, interviews, writing, and podcasting about the Aston Villa Ladies team. On Sunday, they get to play their first Super League 2 match at Villa Park, and we thought this would be the perfect opportunity to highlight the squad.
This is a podcast that I've been wanting to do for ages! As part of Aston Villa Ladies week on 7500 to Holte, I got the chance to chat with freelance football journalist Carrie Dunn and AVLFC forward Katie Wilkinson. Carrie writes for numerous outlets, and routinely covers women's football for Shoot magazine. We got the chance to talk about the history of women's football in England, how the game is structured now, and how the Aston Villa Ladies stack up against their competition.
Then I get to talk with Katie. She's been with Aston Villa since she was a kid (with a brief spell across the city of which we will not speak) and is one of the brightest stars on the team. Unfortunately, she's been out with an injury since summer, but that doesn't stop us from digging deep into AVLFC and what it's like being a role model for young players.
As always, you can find the podcast below. Let us know what you think down in the comments, and thanks for listening!
If you want to get the chance to watch the AVLFC squad, you can see them at Villa Park this Sunday at 2 PM. Tickets can be found here, and most are only £5. If you’re in the over-65 or under-18 groups, your ticket is only £1! Go out and support the ladies in the last match of their season!
