It is no secret that the Villa faithful have always had strong ties and appreciation for powerful and dynamic centre-backs - the likes of Paul McGrath, Martin Laursen, and Olof Mellberg spring to mind.
Enter Ezri Konsa, who in the summer of 2019, joined Aston Villa with the hopes of furthering his career at the young age of 21.
His rise to stardom is something that has gone under the radar amongst those outside of the claret and blue perspective as sterling performances for Charlton secured him a £2.5 million move to Brentford in 2018, where he went on to make 47 appearances for The Bees.

Considering all of the success and career progression that the Englishman has had within the last few years, it’s remarkable to think that Villa were able to acquire his services for approximately £12 million. What is even more remarkable is Konsa’s progression from his debut Premier League season in 2019 and the current season that we find ourselves in today; being one of the main reasons as to why Villa have kept 14 clean sheets in the league this campaign.
Aston Villa have went from a relegation threatened side in which conceded 67 goals last term to a side sitting comfortably mid-table, with only 30 goals conceded so far this term.
More importantly, the mindset of the club has changed remarkably over the last few seasons and this contract extension, alongside a number of other key decisions made by the NSWE ownership group, has put the football club in a position of prosperity and promise.

All in all, the premise of this article is not only to briefly touch on the exciting news of Ezri Konsa signing a contract extension, but for those who read this, to take a moment and appreciate the journey that we have all been on while supporting Villa during recent times.
Villa are a club on an upward trajectory and long may it continue!
