A product of the highly rated Charlton academy, Ezri Konsa joins Aston Villa from Brentford - and is the latest player in particular to be poached from Dean Smith’s former club.
Konsa, a talented and capable central defender won’t immediately start for the Villa - but gives them a handy rotation option and the ability to change their formation around. Excelling at centre-half, the young English defender can also do a job in midfield should he be needed.
Truth be told, don’t expect a great deal from Konsa this season - he’s an all-round talent and capable of stepping up; but he’d have to have a hell of a season to dethrone Tyrone Mings or Bjorn Engels. Injuries may give him the chance to step up - but he’ll be competing with James Chester and Kortney Hause as well.
It’s not a bad thing though. Konsa has clearly been signed by Villa with the future - whatever it brings - in mind. Ezri is a top talent and could be a future England international - he’s already thriving at youth level. The signing of Konsa shows that for the first time in a while Villa are planning ahead. Far ahead.
Oh, and surely we can make up a good chant for him? Something a bit.. good? Have a think. His talent deserves it.
