You wait all summer for a centre-half and two come in, almost at once. Aston Villa have today completed the signing of talented centre-back Ezri Konsa from Brentford Football Club after meeting a release clause of around twelve million pounds yesterday.
After impressing for Brentford, Charlton and England - where he was part of a team that claimed the U20 World Cup just under two years ago.
Konsa fits the bill of a typical Villa signing in 2019 - young, gifted, ready-to-go and with plenty of resale value. There's a lot to like here.
While Konsa was prone to the odd mistake during his time at Brentford (who isn't?), he was capable of stepping up to the top tier of Championship defenders under Dean Smith, and Thomas Frank, during his time at Brentford. A ball playing defender, the signing of Konsa is a relative coup, especially at the price he was sold for.
Konsa will now fly out with the Villa to the United States of America, where pre-season will truly begin.
May the signings continue.
