Aston Villa have today announced that goalkeeper Jed Steer will be rewarded for his Championship heroics with a new contract.

Steer's crucial performances in his nineteen league appearances for the Villa last season aided the team's success in gaining promotion to the Premier League.

And now, he's got his just desserts - with Villa offering a new four-year deal to Steer that will keep the twenty six year-old at AVFC until 2023.

Ideally that'll include a nice, fat pay rise for the player.

It's not known who will take Villa's first-year goalkeeping spot next season, but it does seem that Steer is firmly in Villa's plans, even as a search for a new goalkeeper signing progresses. Jack Butland has been the name on people's lips, but Villa are open in this regard. There's every chance that Jed will start the season.

Jed has been part of the furniture at the Villa for years since joining from Norwich. Now, he's played his part and will continue to do so. This new deal is nothing less than deserved.
