John McGinn wins award for the Championship Goal of the Season

Of course he did.

Sky have today announced that John McGinn's goal for Aston Villa against Sheffield Wednesday has been voted in as the Championship's Goal of the Season.

McGinn’s goal came in a loss for Steve Bruce’s Villa against Wednesday, the team Bruce would later manage. It’s been a highlight for Villa fans, but some of the shine has been taken from it due to the fact that it occurred in the pre-Dean Smith era. That shouldn’t matter though - personally it’s the best goal I’ve seen at Villa Park and that stands for a lot despite the result.

I wrote about it at the time and I’m still stunned. There have been plenty of great goals in the league this season, but McGinn’s effort takes the cake. I’m still mindblown. It’s not even the best thing he’s done this season, but in terms of shots? Wow.

Let’s hope he can replicate it on Monday - and we’re not the only ones. Hibernian are set for some cash if Villa get promoted.

Well in, John! Or should that be Super John?
