Villa seal the deal with Grealish

For the next five years, or until Tottenham get real, that is.

Aston Villa have today announced that Jack Grealish has renewed his commitment to Aston Villa by signing a new contract that will keep him at Villa Park until 2023.

This new five year deal doesn’t seal Grealish to the Villa for the full duration of these five years, as of course, a transfer offer can come in from a third party to prise the player away, but it offers AVFC insurance in that instance.

The best news here is that Villa will lose Grealish for a decent price, instead of a cheaper offer coming in at the end of 2018, towards the end of his old contract. The bet here is that any release clause in the contract would be fair.

What’s more, it might push Grealish’s outside suitors away for a short while, or even attract a bidding war should he step his play up this season.

It's still thought that Tottenham Hotspur are still interested in signing Grealish, but for that to happen, they'll need to get real. Especially real.

However, we all know what happens when players sign new deals for big money. Don’t we? Fingers crossed that Grealish is the exception there.
