It comes as a surprise to many Villa fans that the club have been able to make moves in this transfer market. It was just a few weeks ago that many expected that this current transfer window would be very much be defined by outgoings.
Andre Moreira? For Aston Villa, he defines a sense of stability. The club, compared to previous beliefs, have been able to make a move to reinforce depth in a weak area. While Villa missed out on sealing a deal for Sam Johnstone, at the very least there’s another body in that position to compete with Jed Steer for the starting role.
Moreira defines something else as well - Villa, lacking the structure to launch a raid on the transfer market, have had to deal with a number of agents to bring in players. Moreira’s agent? He’s none other than Jorge Mendes. It seems like there may be rumblings of a culture clash at Villa Park - as Steve Bruce has responded to the signing of a goalkeeper, by targeting another goalkeeper. What’s going on there?
As for Moreira, he speaks English, has bags of talent and should kick on. Whether he does that at Villa, remains to be seen. It’d take a leap of trust or a drop in performance for Steve Bruce to start Moreira. We’ll simply have to wait and see.
