Aston Villa have today announced that a new CEO will be conducting business and football operations at the club as it seeks to move forward under a new ownership group.
Christian Purslow, formerly of Liverpool FC and Chelsea FC will be taking over the reigns at Villa Park with immediate effect.
Here’s the official word from the club.
’Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens, the controlling shareholders of Aston Villa Football Club, along with Dr Tony Xia, are delighted to announce Christian Purslow is joining the Club as CEO and minority investor.
Christian will take over the day-to-day running of the Club with immediate effect.’
All-in-all it seems a positive move and not exactly a promotion fitting of the ‘Peter Principle’ - Purslow’s roles at Liverpool and Chelsea FC quite befit his new rank at Villa. Fears of a Tom Fox number 2 should probably be stayed. Purslow is also noted as a minority investor in Villa, as well. It's nice to know that all the money powering the club doesn't stem from a single source of dubious origin.
Business is back on at Villa Park (though it’s not exactly been off).
