Aston Villa have today announced the signing of Dutch winger, Anwar El Ghazi. El Ghazi moves to Villa in a transfer that is a relative coup, having been hyped for a number of years after graduating from the famed Ajax academy in some style.

The winger comes in from Lille on a season-long loan and it is rumoured that there will be an option in the deal to complete an obligatory purchase - effectively working around the closed transfer window.

Much like John McGinn, El Ghazi is a low-cost, high-ceiling player who will look to press on with their career. It fits the bill for a new look Villa. Anwar joins Andre Moreira as a Gestifute client at Villa. It remains to be seen if Anwar will take up a flank at Villa, or be a rotation option. I’m thinking the former.

If you don’t know El Ghazi, he’s a tricky, fast, and direct winger in a similar vein to Andre Green - but with more experience. At the very least, Steve Bruce will no longer feel obliged to force Ahmed Elmohamady into a wing role.

Here’s to you Anwar, welcome to AVFC!
