Aston Villa have drawn pre-season opponents Burton Albion in the second round of the Carabao Cup.
Villa, numbered one in the regionalised Northern section of the draw will see Villa head to the Pirelli Stadium, just up the A38, on the week commencing the 27th of August.
Funnily enough, Villa were included in the Southern section of the draw for the opening round of fixtures. Progression to the third round will open the draw for all - there will be no regionalisation.
Villa ‘earned’ their way into the second round of the competition by defeating Yeovil Town by one goal to nil earlier this week in the first round. It was a typical away cup tie for Villa, who struggled to make a dent. However, a fine show of individual skill from Jonathan Kodjia allowed the perfectly-positioned Conor Hourihane to tap in from point blank after debutant Andre Moreira saved a penalty. Yeovil also had a goal disallowed in controversial circumstances. Truth be told, it was simply a perfect ‘Aston Villa League Cup’ performance. The team haven’t looked competitive for a long while in this particular competition.
Will AVFC be able to secure a place in the Third Round? Well, they’ll have to beat The Brewers to find out.
