Elmo didn’t get any joy yesterday when his Egyptian side collapsed in the last minute against Uruguay. Mustafa Hadji and Karim El-Ahmadi found no joy against Iran either. Can Mile Jedinak bring some World Cup joy to the Villa camp with a positive result against France, one of the favourites?

It’ll be one hell of an ask, but stranger things have happened. Certainly. For me, I’d be worried about Australia’s ageing legs against a fast and furious Les Bleus.

Still, it’s a Villa influence at the World Cup. That’s something to enjoy, and we’ll all be backing Jedi and his boys. Hopefully!

Aston Villa defensive midfielder Mile Jedinak will likely offer up his spot on the team and his captain’s armband for a place on the bench in this match. Still, he could appear late on to rotate the team and offer some leadership, especially if France can’t find a way in - despite Paul Pogba and co.
