In case you haven’t heard, Villa’s youthful second stringers in the Under 23 division are hot news right now. After claiming a cup while preparing for promotion, it has been a productive few weeks for the young guns, led by Callum O’Hare.

That has been noticed, as well, and not just by the #AVFC Twitterati. The Premier League have bestowed their April Player of the Month for the Premier League 2 on Rushian Hepburn-Murphy.

RHM bagged six goals for Villa’s U23 side across the Cup and League in as many games. His blistering turn of past, side-step and rifling shot are becoming a trademark of a side that is becoming quite the pride and joy of many a Villa fan.

The bravado of the swashbuckling side, managed by Kevin McDonald and coached by former Villan Mark Delaney, among others, has certainly rubbed off on a Villa fanbase that is full of cautious optimism in regards to the current first-team picture.

In fact, with hype growing around the U23 setup at Villa, there has been a fair few complaints about the scheduling of the upcoming U23 play-off final, that takes place on the same day as Aston Villa’s Championship play-off semi-final against Middlesbrough.

The fact that we are a bit miffed about the scheduling of a reserve match is something to be very, very proud of.
