Villa’s loss against Millwall in a meaningless game was probably some sort of distraction from the madness taking place in the rest of the league.

It went right to the wire in most of the games affecting the play-off places and relegation slots - but with the final whistles being blown across the country, we now know where everyone stands.

With Middlesbrough’s draw against Ipswich, Boro will play Villa in the play-off semi final with the first leg taking place at the Riverside next Saturday at 17:15 before Boro visit Villa the Tuesday following at 19:45 UK time.

Fulham had to beat Birmingham, with Cardiff losing to Reading, to finish second - but could only score a single goal against Blues, who bagged three. This means that Fulham will finish 3rd and face Gary Rowett’s Derby County in their play-off semi-final.

Cardiff, of course, have secured 2nd place in the Championship and will join Wolves in the Premier League.

Aston Villa are three matches away from joining them. Hopefully.
