Here’s reason for you to burst open the champagne. It’s time to celebrate, as Aston Villa have actually achieved something!

Tonight’s victory over Leeds United means that Aston Villa FC have guaranteed themselves a slot in the Championship play-offs for 2017/2018, with a shot at gaining promotion.

The Championship play-offs are a four team tournament, with the 3rd placed Championship team playing against the 6thplaced Championship team home & away, while 4th and 5th face off against each other. The overall winner in each of these rounds progresses to the final, where the last team standing, the winner, will head to the Premier League following a single 90 minute match. It’s all to play for.

Of course, many of you – all of those with a glass remaining pretty much half-full – will be looking to the Fulham and Cardiff results from here on out, as no doubt you’ll have one eye on automatic promotion! However, it’s in the stars that either Fulham or Cardiff will be securing those spots. It’d be pretty absurd for Villa to finish second here. It’d take a Rube Goldberg Machine-esque effort from here on out, and everything would have to fall perfectly into place. Villa would also have to win every single game going forward.

Still, with that being said – for once, we can have a day off. Villa have done something of note, and shortly, the real work will begin.

UP THE VILLA.
