It’s an oddly timed international break, but after Villa’s last two-outings, it’s a welcome one.

That doesn’t mean that AVFC are completely out of action, though. After a run of call-ups, plenty of Villa players are heading across the world to link up with their international teams.

Who’s going where? When are they playing? Let’s take a closer look. Villa are on tour!

England

While they haven’t yet broken into the senior side - Callum O’Hare, Easah Suliman and Keinan Davis have been selected for England U20 duty and could make an impact against either Poland or Portugal.

Josh Onomah has also received a call-up to England’s U21 setup and could play a part in the Cyrille-Regis international against Romania and the Euro qualifier against Ukraine for Aidy Boothroyd’s side.

Wales

James Chester will be hoping that he can grab a bit of silverware with Wales who have missed out on the World Cup in the summer. He’s head abroad with the likes of Gareth Bale to China, to compete in the aptly-named China Cup under new boss Ryan Giggs.

The team faces China in a semi-final on the 22nd before moving on to play Uruguay or the Czech Republic if they are successful. Neil Taylor misses out on the squad with a recent injury.

Republic of Ireland

There’s a lot of interest in the ROI squad if you’re a Villa fan. Not only is the team manned by former Villa staff in Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane, but the squad is made up of Villans - current and former who will look to take on Turkey on Friday the 23rd.

Scott Hogan is in line to make his debut for Ireland, with Conor Hourihane also featuring. Former Villans Derrick Williams and Enda Stevens could also grab their first appearances for Ireland, whilst Ciaran Clark is sure to feature at the back.

At a junior level - Jake Doyle-Hayes will feature for Ireland’s U21 team as they face Iceland’s U21 team on Thursday the 22nd of March, before a clash with Azerbaijan next Tuesday the 27th.

Democratic Republic of Congo

Aaron Tishbola has found a new lease of life during his loan spell at high-flying Kilmarnock, who are punching above their weight in the Scottish Premier League.

The Villa man has been rewarded as well - he’s received his first call-up for the DRC national side and will link up with Britt Assombalonga as his side faces Tanzania.

Australia

Socceroo stalwart Mile Jedinak should be in line to face both Colombia and Norway, away from Australia, as the Socceroos ramp it up for the World Cup.

Egypt

Ahmed Elmohamady will be helping Egypt continue their World Cup preparations as his side take on Portugal and Greece on Friday and Tuesday.

Of interest is the presence of high-flyer Mo Salah, who will be looking to take Egypt to the next level in the summer.

Iceland

Birkir Bjarnason is a mainstay of the Icelandic national team and is heading off to Mexico to play the Mexican national side, before facing Peru as they underdogs continue their warm-ups for the summer’s World Cup.
