Aston Villa have locked up one of the rising talents in the club until 2020 with Andre Green signing on the dotted line. The 19-year-old winger has been kept off the field most of the season with a number of injuries but certainly showed flashes of talent when he has been able to play.
Green could still have a role to play in the run-in toward the end of the season — in particular if Adomah or Snodgrass run into health problems because Villa are quite thin when it comes to wide players.
This is the latest of the team’s young players to sign extensions — no reports of what kind of clauses are in the deal.
Green expects to play in a match behind closed doors over the international break and hopes to be back in contention for the first team after that.
The club announcement:
Aston Villa is delighted to announce that Andre Green has signed a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2020.
The 19-year-old academy graduate, who made his claret and blue debut against Tottenham Hotspur in 2016, was a regular fixture at the start of the season for Steve Bruce’s side.
After scoring his first senior goal against Norwich City in August, a hamstring injury sustained against Brentford in September kept him out of action until January when he played in Villa’s cup defeat to Peterborough United.
Green, who has also represented England at Under-20 level, is expected to return to full fitness after the forthcoming international break.
