In the build-up to the Nottingham Forest match, Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce told the press that they are very close to the first transfer of the January window via loan — “We’ll try and go down that route, we’re close to one of two things to bring in. Until you get them over the line, then I can’t really reveal. We’re particularly close on one - let’s hope it can happen.”
Our own Sean Evans laid out some of the rumors that have swirled around this week — but one additional name has bubbled up on rumor mill is another loan of a young player from the PL.
Axel Tuanzebe has been unable to earn a regular spot in Manchester United’s squad — and now may (emphasis on may because this is a rumor) be headed to Villa Park. Tuanzebe has only made three appearances this season (one each in the Champions League (sub), Premier League, and EFL Cup). The 20-year old has mostly played center back — but can also play in a defensive midfield position or at right back (Villa could always use another right back!).
This would have to be a loan move because of the FFP regulations and Villa’s spending spree over the last few years. The deal would be good for both ManU and the player because it would mean match time for a promising youth product.
Aston Villa could use the depth in the back line as the Jedinak at CB experiment did not work and Steve Bruce seems reluctant to give any young Villa products any time with the first team (which is either worrying if none of them are good enough or annoying if they just are being overlooked). Plus the out-going rumors that Elphick may be shipped out after a few positive performances.
Expect a loan move to be announced soon(ish) and watch this space for updates.
