This season was going to be the one for Jack Grealish. The year that he stepped up as the hero of the Holte End.
Then he got injured, and everything changed.
A fairly innocuous collision in the final pre-season friendly against Watford saw the youngster sustain serious internal kidney damage, which required immediate surgery. As a result, there is no real timetable for his return. 3-6 months is an estimate.
The goal for the first half of the season for Jack is simple: get better.
There was a whole lot of pressure on Grealish last season, everyone expected him to walk through defences in this division. To be fair, he did on occasion, but he still received an unfair amount of criticism for his workrate. Hopefully, by the time he returns, the squad will be firing well enough that the pressure is off of his shoulders.
Jack is still a top prospect, though his ceiling is probably slightly lower than we first thought. In any case, once he recovers, there is no reason why he can’t have himself a successful half campaign.
