Last year was supposed to be the year Gary Gardner nailed down his spot in the Aston Villa midfield. The club had dropped to the level that he had spent parts of the last five seasons at. The then-24 year old looked like the injuries may be behind him.
And — to be frank — it didn’t work out.
Barring the one magical and fairy tale goal against Birmingham city — it was a season to forget. There are all kinds of rumors that the native is heading out the door — the biggest clue being he did not travel with the team to Germany.
I want Gardner to come good — and I want it to be at Villa. And I am sure most supporters feel the same way. But with the new additions in the midfield — it does not feel like the story is going to end as we want.
