Stop me if this sounds familiar. Talented player from a Championship team comes to Aston Villa and fails to shine. If that doesn’t seem familiar — welcome & congrats on moving out from living under a rock. The £3-million deal still cannot be considered a disappointment because Bree is still only 19 years old and came into Villa as a relatively inexperienced prospect (joined with 19 games played in the Championship and 23 in League One). Bree made seven appearances last year, six as a starter.
The danger really is his position because there is a crowd as right back — Hutton appears to be the starter, Elmo pushed up to wing with Adomah still out, De Laet coming back from injury, and RB is one of the many positions Bacuna can play. Bree will have to impress in practice and reserve teams -- and make the chance count, if he gets one.
I’m already out on a limb believing in James Bree because I called him my Aston Villa player to watching in the 7500toHolte Roundtable. So I hope he proves me correct when his chance comes.
