One more day! One more day until it all starts again. Tomorrow, we welcome Hull back to Villa Park, and back to the Championship. Taking them out would be a statement of intent, but just how far can we see ourselves going this season? Find out below.
Can Villa get back to the Premier League this season? Let us know below.
Where do you think that Aston Villa will finish this season?
Alex: Ninth. Villa are built to play attacking football. Until they start playing that way consistently, I can’t commit to expecting a true promotion chase.
Elis: Fifth. I’d like us to go up, but I think we fall off near to the end.
Herbert: Seventh.
James: Ideally first. I think realistically we will just miss the playoffs.
Phil: Seventh.
Robert: Here’s the thing. I tabbed them to go up. But I’m still gonna say eighth, because Villa will always break my heart.
Which team are you most looking forward to seeing Villa play?
Alex: Fulham were the division’s best attacking side last year, so I’m curious how Villa’s defence will stack up.
Elis: Hmm, Cardiff I suppose, for the Welsh connection.
Herbert: Hull City
James: Hull, first game of the season!
Phil: Birmingham -- but really only by default.
Robert: Middlesbrough. Beat them on September 12 and, regardless of what has come before, we can say this team means to do something.
What does Villa need to do in order for you to consider this a successful season?
Alex: Top-six finish. You can do nearly everything right in this division and still not go up, but regardless, Villa need to at least show progress toward promotion.
Elis: I suppose it’s got to be promotion hasn’t it? I’d settle for playoffs though.
Herbert: Be promoted.
James: Simply put, they need to finish in the top two. This squad is too good for a ninth placed finish, or squeaking into the playoffs. Anything less is pretty poor.
Phil: Have two 10+ goal scorers not named Kodjia.
Robert: Playoffs.
