Aston Villa Rumoured to Add to Centre-Back Depth

After yesterday’s crypt-mogi tweets that Villa was locked for the remainder of the transfer window, Aston Villa is yet again put in the rumour mill to add players this window.

Our James Rushton yesterday put on his L costume and surmised that Dr Tony was reporting no more incoming squadmates, however Spanish newspaper AS in their 30 August issue has reported otherwise in the move of Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen back to English football.

Due to a variety of injuries the Belgian international hasn’t featured much at Camp Nou since his £15 million move in 2014 and has most recently appeared with AS Roma during a season long loan for 2016-2017.

It seems likely that any move to add to the depth in the centre of the defense would need come with the exodus of former captains Tommy Elphick, Micah Richards, or both.

In addition, the report names Premier League sides Swansea, West Brom, and Crystal Palace as potential suitors. With top flight interest Steve Bruce would have to put on his salesman cap and Dr Tony would have to open the cheque book yet again.
