Aston Villa’s squad numbers have been released, meaning that you can now echo your favourite star when you buy your new Villa shirt!
Squad numbers mean next to nothing - however they do signify the roles that players have, usually. A number in the first 11 usually means a starting place (unless it was a former starter, now on the bench, who has kept the number).
The full changes to Villa’s squad number list are below, but the biggest change is to the number of the injured Jack Grealish - who takes the 10, switching down from 40. Glenn Whelan was rumoured to take the 10 shirt, after wearing it throughout pre-season, but he will take the number 6 shirt.
James Chester makes a move for the number 5 shirt, while Henri Lansbury takes number 8. Chris Samba is number 4 for Villa this season, while John Terry is of course, 26. In lieu of his 26, Jonathan Kodjia is now 22.
