The Second Round draw of the Carabao Cup takes place tonight after the conclusion of the first round tie between Bury and Sunderland and a revisit of the Second City Derby is on the cards.

Aston Villa and Birmingham City progressed to the 2nd round of the Carabao Cup with plaudits. The Blues dispatched Crawley by five goals to one at St Andrews, while Villa outclassed Colchester 2-1 in a scrappy game in Essex which could have gone either way. A class performance from Birmingham (for once) was matched by a lot of spirit from Villa (for once) who didn’t give up until the final whistle - and some key performances, namely from Jed Steer - saved the day.

As one of the 25 highest placed teams from last season's league - Aston Villa alongside the Premier League teams entering the second round are seeded. While Birmingham aren’t - which raises the chances of Aston Villa drawing Birmingham City.

Who else could Villa face? Well, it could be one of QPR, Burton, Nottingham Forest, Blackburn, Rotherham, Wigan, Accrington Stanley, Doncaster, Bristol Rovers, Rochdale, Millwall, Charlton, Carlisle, Cheltenham, Barnet, Scunthorpe, Newport, MK Dons, Bolton, Sheffield United or of course Birmingham City.

25 teams will go through to the third round, and will meet the top seven Premier League clubs. Let’s see if Aston Villa are one of them!
