Update: Mark Bunn is probably staying

Mark Bunn’s incoming departure will mean that Villa are without a goalkeeper, and without a backup.

UPDATE: *We got got. The story is from a fake account. We’ll let you know if Mark Bunn does go anywhere

Aston Villa might need to consider the fact that they need to sign two goalkeepers this summer. With Sam Johnstone set to turn down a move to Villa in favour of a transfer to Middlesbrough from Manchester United, and Pierluigi Gollini stuck in purgatory over in Atalanta, news is now breaking that Mark Bunn is set to leave the club.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has announced that Northampton are set to reveal the signing of Mark Bunn from the Villa.

Aston Villa’s second-choice goalkeeper was never amazing, but could be called upon as a reliable backup. Without Bunn, Villa have an extremely worrying situation emerging in goal. While the talent of Matija Sarkic and Brad Watkins is promising, neither are exactly on the level of Gianluigi Donnarumma, and thus might not be trusted with marshalling a defence. Jed Steer is Villa’s only goalkeeper right now, but is injury prone. However, his Championshop and EFL experience should not be ignored, whether he can stay fit for an entire season is another question, though.

Villa’s goal? It doesn’t just need a new sheriff - it’s also looking for a deputy. With Villa spending a lot of cash on the incoming signing of John Terry, they’ll certainly have to press ahead with the signing of a goalkeeper pretty fast.
