The playoff hopes likely died with last weekend’s draw against Bruton Albion. Sixth-placed Sheffield Wednesday won yesterday, and that means that even if Villa win today, they’ll still be eleven points out with four matches left. Heck, that Sheffield win probably means that what happened last weekend was irrelevant anyhow. So at least we don’t have to dwell on it.
But we can still try for a top-ten finish! And if Aston Villa can win today’s match against reading, they’ll move into tenth, behind ninth-placed Preston North End only on goal differential.
Well, maybe. Last weekend, Reading lost 7-1 at Norwich City. If Villa could repeat that stunning performance, they’d overtake Preston. And listen, we don’t have to be greedy. All it would take is for Villa to win 7-2, or 6-1, or 5-0. Shouldn’t be too hard, right? LET’S GO FOR NINTH!
