Aston Villa grab lucky escape with Hogan injury

Aston Villa have today announced that Scott Hogan’s scary ankle injury sustained in Villa’s last match might not be as worrying as first feared.

This news comes after fears that Hogan had either ruptured ankle ligaments, or broken it entirely during Monday’s clash with Newcastle.

Good news also follows with the expectation that Jonathan Kodjia will be available for the weekend clash with Derby, but it could be from the bench after Villa’s star man limped off on Monday.

Scott Hogan has thus far failed to make his mark at Aston Villa, but has been played in such an isolated system where he has been forced into an unfamiliar role by Villa manager Steve Bruce. Hogan’s clearly a gifted player, but it seems like his price tag has forced him into the Villa team before Villa could even plan for him to be in the team. Once again it might have been an abundance of resource that has damned Villa.

Villa’s striking options are limited to Kodjia and Keinan Davis while everyone else nurtures an injury of their own.

Expect to see Scott back in April and in the meantime pray to your deity of choice that Villa don’t lose Kodjia to a serious injury - or the threat of relegation could become a serious cloud over the tail end of this season.
