Aston Villa and Middlesbrough have agreed to terms on a permanent transfer for Rudy Gestede.
The massive 1.93m Gestede only joined from Blackburn Rovers last summer, but Steve Bruce felt the need to free up funds for new business, so the decision was made to allow the Benin forward to leave.
In the Premier League last season, Gestede made 32 appearances, scoring five times and assisting two goals. This year, in the Championship, Gestede has four goals and one assist.
Left out of the squad for Villa’s trip to Cardiff, it became clear that Villa could have used Gestede. Without a solid midfield presence, Bruce’s team continued to pump the ball forward without finding much success.
With Jonathan Kodjia away at AFCON and Gestede now employed by another club, the strikers that Villa have available really need to step up in January. Or, maybe the money will be used to buy a midfielder.
