The Ross McCormack nightmare continues

Left out of the squad against Preston, we have found out what’s going on with the striker

Everything seems to be unravelling for Aston Villa at the moment. After taking a 2-0 lead against Preston North End on Saturday, the Claret and Blues threw away three points in typical Villa fashion to settle for a draw.

Curiously, there was only one striker in the matchday 18 for Steve Bruce’s side today: Gabby Agbonlahor. Following the sale of Rudy Gestede and with Jonathan Kodjia and Jordan Ayew away at the African Cup of Nations, strikers were always going to be in short supply during January, but it was a surprise not to see Ross McCormack included despite his struggles this season.

After the match had concluded, we found out the reason for his absence thanks to BBC West Midlands Radio.

So, despite there being a dearth of striking options at the moment, McCormack is unfit despite being healthy. Apparently he hasn’t been a mainstay at Bodymoor Heath training sessions, leading to a lack of fitness. As a result, he’s facing disciplinary action from the club.

This news comes amid rumours that McCormack is on his way back to former club Fulham. I don’t think many Villa fans would have a problem with him leaving, but the problem is that there aren’t many other internal options available at this point. Maybe Libor Kozák?

Regardless if McCormack stays or goes, it doesn’t look like he’ll be playing for Steve Bruce’s team any time soon. Therefore, Aston Villa need to add another striker.
