Aston Villa 2016-17 player preview: Kevin Toner

Can the youngster step up and provide some depth this season?

Kevin Toner’s most notable contribution to Aston Villa so far was not embarrassing himself in his few appearances near the end of the season. As the club was going well and truly off the rails, Toner’s few appearances were at least something different from the horror of the rest of the season.

Where Toner sits on Roberto Di Matteo’s depth chart remains to be seen. However with Ciaran Clark’s departure, at least for the time being, he’s moved up in the ranks.

He might not feature much, if it all, this season. That doesn’t really mean much, at least not yet. He’s only 20 years old. If he’s the fourth or fifth choice center back, that’s fine. Maybe he even gets sent out on loan, who knows. It’s hard to say what will happen with a player as young as he is.

At the very least, maybe the youngster will get a chance to outshine his brother, Printer Toner.
