Jordan Veretout headed back to France

Jordan Veretout’s stay at Villa is over, for now, at least.

The playmaker was supposed to be a creative spark in the midfield when he joined from Nantes last July for around £8m. Things did not work out that way — though certainly not all of that can be laid at Jordan Veretout’s feet — nothing worked out last year.

Report are surfacing, and have been doing so all summer, of a transfer back to France. This has been confirmed today, as the 23 year old has joined Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne on a season long loan. This has been confirmed by the French side:

Veretout has talent. There is no doubt about that, and was declared a favorite player by our Jack Jasek, but never really got going. A loan makes sense. I’ll admit to being surprised there is no option to buy. That very well could have been what caused the deal to take so long to get done. Maybe he’s got a future at Villa Park.

Aston Villa have confirmed the move with the usual two sentence statement.

Jordan Veretout has joined French club Saint-Etienne on a season-long loan.

Good luck to Jordan for the coming campaign.

Dr. Tony has yet to tweet about the move — but you never know.

Bonne chance Jordan!
