Per Gianluca di Marzio, Villa may be about to lose their second defensive midfielder in quick succession. After Idrissa Gueye was spotted posing in an Everton shirt this morning, fellow defensive midfielder Carlos Sanchez is reportedly attracting the eye of Italian side Fiorentina. Di Marzio claims Fiorentina are currently interested in a loan with option to buy deal for Sanchez. Villa payed £4.7 million for Sachez a little over two years ago, and would likely only want to sell for a significant portion of his original price.
With the recent departures of Idrissa Gueye, the seemingly imminent departure of Ciaran Clark, and the possible departure of Carlos Sanchez, Villa will have a significant chunk of money to play with. Rumors swirled this morning of a £12 million move for Fulham striker Ross McCormack - however, if Sanchez is sold in the £3-4 million range, Villa would still have money leftover to pursue other positions of need (most notably, right back). While Ashley Westwood, Aaron Tshibola, and Gary Gardner remain viable defensive midfield options for Roberto di Matteo, Sanchez seems like the type of player who would excel in the physical Championship.
