Joleon Lescott is set to join Rangers, and Villa are even paying part of his wages for the next year.
Lescott, 34, has one year left on his Aston Villa contract, but after a disastrous first season at the club, his position became untenable after clashing with fans on social media, and a move elsewhere seemed inevitable.
Leeds were at one point said to be favourites to secure his signing, but earlier this evening it was reported that Lescott was in Glasgow to complete a medical with the newly promoted Scottish Premiership side.
Aston Villa's owner subsequently dropped the following revelation on Twitter:
No. Sorry for that. We have agreed to cover part of his wage of the one year contract left. https://t.co/m23W7iGpgb

Not only is Joleon Lescott joining Rangers on a free transfer, but Aston Villa are paying part of his wages for the next year. A small price to pay for a toxic personality in the Villa dressing room? I sure think so.
Joleon Lescott has had a fairly successful career, but his spell at Aston Villa will surely be a blemish on his record. After all, he will be best remembered for "accidentally" Tweeting a picture of a car, minutes after Villa suffered a heavy defeat. Sums it up rather well.
