Alright, let’s try this again. The last time Aston Villa won a match it was in February against Norwich. That 2-0 victory was followed up by the 0-6 drubbing at the hands of Liverpool in what was perhaps the 2015-16 season’s most humiliating moment. Then came thirteen more league losses (and one League Cup disaster) that spanned into this year.
But a 3-0 win over Rotherham United has Villa fans soaring, has the team in high spirits, and has us ready to try to get two in a row again. The last time Villa did that was the beginning of May, 2015. That was back in the Premier League, when the 2014-15 team saved themselves from relegation by beating Everton and West Ham (and then lost the last three matches of the season by conceding eleven goals and only scoring one).
Huddersfield Town, on the other hand, have won two matches in a row in the league already this season. Sure they were knocked out of the League Cup by League One Shrewsbury Town in between, but they’re playing well in the Championship and are not going to be knockovers. Just ask Newcastle.
So let’s follow along as Aston Villa try to deny another team the chance at two in a row and do it for themselves for the first time in ages. We’ll have the lineups below when they post, and we’ve embedded our list of twitter accounts that should be live tweeting below, too. You’ve got everything you need to follow the match. Well, everything but the beer. You provide that yourself.
