Earlier this week it seemed as though Aston Villa left back Joe Bennett was set to sign for Sheffield Wednesday. We have today learned that this will not happen, as Villa owner Dr. Xia has pulled the plug on the transfer.
Joe Bennett is Villa's third choice left back, behind Jordan Amavi and Aly Cissokho, and the proposed move to Sheffield Wednesday made sense for all parties involved, especially considering that Bennett spent part of last season on loan with Wednesday. Bennett will now instead find himself fighting for a place in the Villa squad, as the move to Wednesday is officially dead in the water.
The player himself confirmed the news on Twitter, saying:
Been a hectic few days. Won't be moving though. #whatwillbewillbe

Both Bennett and manager Roberto Di Matteo were on board with the proposed transfer, but it has emerged that owner Dr. Xia is unwilling for the player to join fellow promotion rivals Sheffield. As far as depth options go, it is good to keep Bennett, though it might not be the best result for his career.
This is what the owner had to say about the situation:
No. I and RDM and others have been working together very well. We communicate well. Don't be fooled by agents&others https://t.co/eFf9wwRxhm
